Three students taking up Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Isabela State University Cabagan – College of Forestry and Environmental Management (CFEM) landed 5th overall, besting 21 participating schools nationwide in the recently concluded 14th National Forestry Olympiad (NFO) held at College of Forestry and National Resources – University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos, Laguna, February 25 to March 1.
The team is composed of 3rd year BSF Anamay D. Subia and 4th year BSF students Rjay R. Andrade and Rhea J. Guillermo, who garnered 46.48 points and harvested the following awards:
Tree measurement – 3rd place
Forest Surveying – 4th place
Seed Indentification – 6th place
Tree Disease Identification – 6th place
Geographic Information System – 6th place
Wood Identification – 8th place
leaf Identification – 12th place
Quiz contest – 10th place
According to Guillermo, one of the representatives, it is an honor to represent the institution.
โSobrang emotional po ako since nagkaroon ng saysay yung hindi ko paggraduate on time. Isang karangalan na irepresent hindi lamang ang kolehiyo namin pati na rin ang buong ISU sa NFO,โ she said.
Guillermo revealed that this is the highest placement ISUC achieved so far in all of their appearances.
โWe actually made a history. The highest placing before sa lahat ng appearances ng ISUC sa NFO was 7th place overall,โ she added.
Meanwhile, Agustin Duruin, head coach, expressed his gratefulness for the accomplishment of the team.
“As the head coach, hindi matatanggal sa akin na maging proud at thankful for such accomplishment ng mga participants natin,โ he said.
NFO is an event held once every two years by the UP Zeta Beta Rho Honor Fraternity (UP-ZBRHF) and the UP Mussaenda Honor Sorority( UP-MHS) to test forestersโ knowledge and skills through various contested events.
